Plants are living organisms

Plants are living organisms that cover the earth.    Most plants are green, because of a process called photosynthesis.  It is said that there are over 280,000 species of plants on the planet.  Plants produce oxygen.

Plants are grouped into two: angiosperms or flowering plants and gymnosperms or non flowering plants.  Some scientists, however, classify plants into four kinds: mosses, ferns, conifers, and flowering plants.

Ordinarily, people would recorgnize plants into several groups such as trees, herbs, bushes, grass, vines, ferns, mosses, and algae.  Plants are also classified according to their characteristics: deciduous or evergreen, annuals, biennials, perennials, creepers, and climbers.

Based on their characteristics, plants may also be grouped into the following kinds:

Trees are evergreen trees that are woody perennials with secondary branches.  These are the tallest types of plants and are considered the oldest and largest forms of living organisms.

Moss is a tiny non-flowering plant that does not have roots, but only filaments. Mosses do not bear seeds.

Herbs are woody plants that are mostly on the grounds.

Shrubs or bushes are woody perennials that are smaller than trees.

Cacti or Cactus plants, with spines, grow in dry weather.

Pitcher plants are carnivorous plants that grow in marshlands.
