In 2009, overseas Filipino workers of OFWs sent a total of $17.348 billion in remittances to their families in the Philippines. This translates to about P800 billion in peso terms. Remittances rose 6.9 percent to $9.062 billion in the first six months of 2010 and are projected to hit over $18 billion for the whole year.
