As of September 2010, there were 13 Filipino chess players who were bestowed the title of grandmaster (GM).

These chessers include Eugene Torre (1974); the late Rosendo Balinas Jr. (1976); ogelio “Joey” Antonio Jr. (1998); Buenaventura “Bong” Villamayor (2000); Nelson Mariano II (2004); Mark Paragua (2005); Wesley So (2007); Darwin Laylo (2007); Jayson Gonzales (2008); John Paul Gomez (2008); Joseph Sanchez (2009) Rogelio "Banjo" Barcenilla (2010) and Roland "Kulot" Salvador (2010).
